Day 75 of 90 | Day 75 of 120 | Wellness Detox Holiday Preparations

Day 75 of 90 | Day 75 of 120 | Wellness Detox

Note: Day 75 - The weather is 0 degrees which means that our body is using thermogenesis.  Fifteen minute of being in the cold can equal one hour of exercise but if you plunge yourself into the cold, you can burn up to 400 calories through just exposure as the body works to increase the body's core temperature.

Ice Bath 10 to 15 degrees / 59 degrees = 400 calories in an hour burn

Based on the cold plunge data, the body burns 7 calories for every minutes of exposure adding 400 calories to our time walking and waiting this morning. The morning calorie burn this morning was 166 for an hour commuting by public transport and 400 calories being exposed to cold air for an hour.

This means that my morning commute calorie burn went from 166 to 566 because of the cold weather (zero degree C) and walking, standing outside waiting for public transport.

Holiday Preparations

For holiday preparations and seasonal celebrations, cold weather exposure will be helpful in burning extra calories during holiday parties.  One warm toddy has 261 calories.  If you walk for an hour in the cold before the party you will burn the calories needed to consume a holiday beverage.

If you plan on eating at the party, figure out how much you want to eat and work that into your calorie burning.

For your planning:

  • 27 cheese flavoured crackers equals 190 calories. (depending on the brand). You can eat a cheese cracker without adding additional calories.

  • Roasted chicken is a good option with a portion of roasted chicken having around 197 calories.

  • For dessert, focus on dark chocolates.

  • A small handful of almonds has around 164 calories.
To burn extra calories at the party:

  • Stand outside in the cold with friends who smoke.  The usual time for smokers to stand outside is 15 minutes which equals 105 calories each time you go outside and stand.    If there are no smokers, just go outside for a fifteen minute fresh air break or to hear someone better.
  • Stand at the party.  You burn 160 calories per hour standing while you will burn only 80 calories sitting.
  • Ask the hostess if you can help with cleanup of the party.  If you help with the cleanup or setup of the party, you will be burning 187 calories per hour washing / sorting out the kitchen.
  • Volunteer to go get more of whatever is needed at the party from the store.  There always seems to be a shortage of something.   Find out what is missing and offer to run to the store.  Running an errand will burn at least 240 calories.
