Walking

Research has found that walking at a pace of 3– 5 m/h (5–8 km/h) expends sufficient energy to be classified as moderate intensity2 and is an easy and accessible way of meeting physical activity recommendations.

Moderate Intensity exercise is in the fat burning zone.  It is physical activity that raises your heart rate but allows you to still talk while working out.  You will feel your hear rate increase but you will not feel exhausted or sweaty.

Other exercises that are considered moderate in intensity are :

  • Slow biking
  • General gardening
  • slow swimming
The government of the United States states that one minute of vigorous exercise equals two minutes of moderate exercise and that there are some health benefits to moderate exercise which include:

  • Improved thinking
  • Reduction of anxiety
  • Manage weight
  • Reduction of health risks such as diabetes, metabolic syndrome, some cancers, Covid-19
  • Strengthen body
  • Increase longevity
Amount of exercise needed to achieve benefits is thirty minutes a day with at least two days of  muscle training incorporated each week.  If you go over the minimum you will see even better results.
